NEW WORK: Tropical Nursery decor

Personal commissions are a part of the studio’s offerings, so today I am sharing the illustrations I created for the nursery. This young family wanted to decorate the wall with tropical greenery and a lion cub illustrations, to celebrate the birth of their baby boy Leon.

Every illustration starts with sourcing the references, creating a sketch drawing and a painting process. I like to make sure that final pieces will match the client's vision from the beginning, so I take talking through the concept and sending updates very seriously.

To have a diversity in shapes within botanical pieces, client chose the monstera leaf (monstera deliciosa) and a palm leaf (coconut palm tree), having more round shapes combined with the pointy and sharp.

Kids at this early age are sensitive to bright and saturated colors, so having the illustrations built with more muted, natural tones is a great way to make sure the nursery space is calming. We also worked together with a client to choose the correct palette, that will compliment the interior of the room.

Watercolor illustrations were painted on 300 gsm hot press (smooth) paper. Only artist quality watercolor paints are used in the studio, that means an artwork will hold it’s true colors for hundreds of years.

When I think about the little Leon who will look at this artwork that I’ve painted and maybe one day, when he grows up, will have a childhood memory of it, it warms up my heart.

Hope you enjoyed a peak into custom illustration process!
